Golf Malaysia magazine, as the 2008 golf season unfolds, is celebrating its 28th year of publishing.

When Golf Malaysia debuted in 1981, on a bi-monthly basis, golf was a fledging sport in Malaysia. A mere 47 golf courses were scattered across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sawarak that served about 5,000 elite golfers. The magazine, like the game of golf, has established itself in the landscape of South East Asia. Today it is the region's best continuously published monthly golf publication and Malaysia's No. 1 magazine for bringing golf fans in-depth coverage of regional golf news with a strong worldwide flavour.

Our staff recognizes the golf industry is always on the move as it expanses and brings new invigorating ideas to the game. New golf courses appear, old layouts are re-modeled and others become the foundation for other types real estate ventures. Young players mingle with the veteran stars of the game in tournaments that span the globe. And equipment manufacturers use modern technology to revamp the look, shape and playing characteristics of every aspect of the game.

During this evolution, that shows no signs of slowing, Golf Malaysia magazine has been and will continue to be focused on documenting it for our readers. We have never been afraid to move forward as we present readers with original features and factual content in a fresh package.

This February issue, which is our 312 issue, is another fine example of the extensive regional and international golf news we present to our readers. Looking for new golf courses to challenge? Simply consult one of our issues. Do you wish to learn about the latest hot equipment? Golf Malaysia can help and direct you. Instruction, in-depth feature stories, previews and reviews of golf's majors, and numerous articles on the golf pros that entertain us each week are all there on our colourful pages.

Our editorial, graphics, sales and marketing departments have worked for nearly the last three decades to ensure that ours readers have all their favourite features delivered promptly to their doorsteps in an attractive, informative package.

Golf Malaysia magazine's team over the decades has, also, been busy with of aspects of golf besides just writing about it. In July of 1986, the Hole-in-One Club was started and today the still growing club has over 14,000 members. A year later we launched or first golf tournament Champion of Champions. Our tournaments have grown not only in statue (the Champion of Champions is a must event for the country's top amateurs and for some is a step towards a professional career) but in numbers. Each year our Eagles (for members of the Eagles Club that was started in 2000), Irons, two legs of the Aces of Aces, and for 2008 our 22nd Champion of Champions welcomes golfers from across Malaysia to compete in fun-filled competition.

Golf directories have, also, played a large part in the magazine's growth. Our first special hard-cover Malaysia golf course directory appeared in 1984 and culminated with the hard-cover 1996 directory that also covered Singapore courses.

My personal favourite of Golf Malaysia's extraordinary activities is our biennial golf course poll. Since 1991, we have encouraged our readers to vote for their favourite course in a wide variety of categories. Our first course to be voted No. 1 in the country was Saujana's Palm. For 2006 and '07 Kota Perami reigned. You can find the results of our latest, or 9th, reader's poll starting on page XX in this issue.

As the remaining 2008 issues unfold, in what looks to be another busy golf year, we are excited to continue as a key source for your golf information and some on-course fun. We would, also, like to remind you that Golf Malaysia is YOUR golf publication. So feel free to contact us with your ideas, wishes and needs either by telephone (603-7880-5060), fax (603-7880-5171), or an e-mail to golfmsia@golfmalysia.com.my. We welcome our readers to help shape the magazines to make it the best product we, as a team, can deliver.

And to hopefully interest you even more, let me inform you that while this 28th anniversary year is important to us, my staff and I are already spending time planning for our soon to arrive milestone 30th Anniversary year.

Happy New Year!
