If you suffer from back pain, you are not alone! It is estimated that everyone will suffer from some form of back pain at least once in their lifetime. Regular sporting activities, like golf, increase the risk of developing back pain if you choose not to take care of yourself along the way.

Most back pain is the result of injury. Most injuries occur during accidents, falls, or from sports or recreational activities that involve physical contact or repetitive stress.

The swing mechanism in golf is extremely repetitive and can lead to more than just a simple back ache. In some cases, back pain can occur for no apparent reason, which raises concern for serious conditions or disease. The most important aspect of dealing with back pain is to source the origin.

What Causes Back Pain?
While low back is more common, the neck and upper back are also at risk of injury. Injuries to the muscles and ligaments of the spine are the most common cause of back pain. While most are minor injuries, such as strains or sprains from improper lifting techniques, slips, trips, or too much twisting of the spine, severe injuries can also occur as a result of hard falls onto hard surfaces, or from higher areas causing awkward landing positions on the buttock, or even a direct blow to the top of the head.
